if I just ignore everything…

… then everything is ok?

Seriously as long as I stay off reddit, facebook and twitter I’m not in a spiral of anxiety. But then I go to something I thought would be safe and BAM hi here’s a reminder that everything sucks. Fun podcast? We’re going to open with a super serious statement on COVID-19. Instagram? Here’s everybody who is using the Stay at Home sticker! Tiktok? Here’s 20 videos in a row about the virus.

So I haven’t been super involved in social media the last few days. I’ve been playing Animal Crossing New Horizons, working on my website, and sewing. Or… un-sewing. But I’ll get that in a minute. As usual let’s go back to last Monday and start there.

Chase and I pulled out all my puzzles. We picked a Lion King puzzle to work on over the next couple of weeks, so that’s fun.

Next few night I worked on a Star Trek project… Jean bought a TOS skant pattern and brought it over to me to look at last week. And it was the craziest thing I think I’ve ever seen. The instructions were just… weird. So I told her to leave it and let me play with it.

A really ROUGH mock-up out of some scrap spandex just so I could understand this thing. I ended up having to go down a major internet rabbit hole trying to understand this costume. I’ve never really done any kind of research on Star Trek TOS costumes so I thought that might help me understand the pattern better. Also had to ask Jess, who has made one of these, where in the heck does the zipper go?! LOL.

Both were helpful though because I did get it figured out. At least, I think I did.

I ended up completely re-writing the instructions and then also made new pattern pieces that included seam allowance, showed grainlines and had extra notes written on them. So it’s ready to go whenever Jean gets fabric. May make one for myself later on!

Not in a hurry for this though; got time to get it made. Both mom and Jean were making Star Trek costumes for the Huntsville con which was supposed to be in April. They pushed it back to July and I really hope everything is back to normal by then. I’m so looking forward to it.

I had a migraine off and on from the end of last week through yesterday morning. Weather keeps shifting. But the good news is Mema went home on Saturday! YAY! They totally shut down the hospital to visitors on Thursday. Thankfully they let me aunt stay with her. So glad they didn’t have to stay long. They are all in quarantine now basically LOL. None of us can go see her right now. she does has a nurse and an aid scheduled as well as PT. Problem is her short term memory is so bad she can’t remember she’s not supposed to get up. She managed to get up and fell last night. Nobody is really sure what to do about that short of tieing her to her chair!

Saturday, for whatever reason, I got a wild hare. I’m like 99.9% sure our Disney trip is going to get rescheduled – to when, I dunno. So heartbroken. But trying not to think about it. But that means all my dapper day stuff isn’t really urgent anymore… still working on it, but for whatever reason Friday night I decided… I’m going to finish my Padme nightgown.

Some of you who are new here might be saying, what Padme nightgown?

Oh just the Sleepless Knights/veranda nightgown I started back in 2007!!

(I thought it was 2006 but the pic of the back shows it over my ewok village dress so I think it was actually 2007. It’s hard to tell when I never actually finished it LOL. Hang on, I’m going to look back in my blog and check. 16 posts about padme nightgown! And it’s never been finished! Geez. Yes, ok, May 2007 was when I took those 2 photos.)

So I didn’t finish it, for whatever reason, I dunno. In Dec 2011 I was bored and dug it out and did some more work on it.

I got the trim I bought to emulate the stitching in the front seams set in to the 5 seams in the front. But it was difficult work because I really wasn’t happy with my 2007 craftsmenship in 2011. It was rough looking. I didn’t finish and put it away again.

So here we are, 2020 quarantine party.

I dug it out and what I had was the front panel with the 5 trimmed seams, but the hems were a mess. The straps were pinned on. The 2 back panels and 2 side panels were not attached, just pinned on, and the back waterfall “wings” were loose. I decided the only way to save this project would be to completely disassemble it (except for the wings, they were ok), and fully line it. The main thing I wasn’t happy with in 2011 were those ugly hems. I have some blue lining material, it’s not a perfect match, but I’m going to take each of the front panels, fully line them, then hand sew them together using the trim. Line the back as well. So there’s no 2-3 rows of stitching at every hem trying to keep it from rolling over.

It took me all weekend to completely take it apart. There was so much stitching on these things. And for some reason TINY stitching.

That’s where I left it last night, totally disassembled and ready for me to start cutting lining tonight. I’m excited to finish it. I still have the brooch Chase made for me back in 2006, but if we can find the pieces going to 3d print them instead. Yay.

Sunday was Chase’s birthday. I promised him when this over we’ll have a better birthday. He picked up some steaks last time he went to the grocery, so we had those, some twice baked potatoes, and I made him a cake.

Dug up some Star Wars cupcake toppers I had saved as decorations. Make it work moment LOL.

We watched Onward while we ate and it was cute.

Last bit of news. I mentioned working on my site at the beginning of the post. I’ve finally decided it’s time to make a change. It’s going to be a long process, probably be another month before it happens… but I’m working on it. It’s not going to be that big a change for viewers, but will be fr me. More details soon. Yay!
